Another place to stay in Patong. HIP and CHIC Serviced Apartments--BYD Lofts

Patong is probably the most famous of all of Phuket's famous places to visit. Approximately 20 minutes from Phuket town and 40 minutes from the airport, it nestles around a beautiful bay surrounded by hills and looking down from these hills it appears to be quite self sustaining. Growing form a small fishing village, not too may years ago, the 4 km long beach is one of the safest places in Phuket in which to swim.

The island of Phuket now has many attractions for all kinds of tourists to visit, but whether a regular visitor or a first timer, Patong will certainly be on the list for most people. When coming to Phuket and looking for accommodation, Patong offers everything from budget backpacker rooms to luxurious 5-star hotels, but in addition, the shopping opportunities have the same broad spectrum, from mini bazaars with their crazy bargaining, to the mighty Jungceylon. The restaurants follow a similar wide ranging pattern whilst tour operators, or a simple walk around town, can reveal a vast and varied array of holiday entertainment. Such activities range from diving trips (day or live-aboard) through shooting ranges, visits to Phi Phi or the Similan Islands to Bungee jumping. All this, and we have not even mentioned the raucous (and equally varied, if you know where to look) after hours activities for which the town is famous.

If you take full advantage (or even a small portion) of everything that is on offer you will need a good place to lay down your weary head. Somewhere safe, quiet and comfortable and BYD Lofts offers just such a venue in a slightly quieter part of town. Rat-U-Thit 200 Pee Road is the first major north- south road inland from the beach Road and traveling south, the only way possible on this one way street, they are situated in an international arcade on the right hand side between Chaloem Phrakiat Road and Haad Patong Road, just opposite the Andaman Beach Suites.

Entering this Belgian owned 4-story apartment building you will be surprised at the ambience. There are two types of accommodation available: one or two bedroom suites, each furnished well with all facilities to make your stay comfortable and content. The furniture is of a high quality and the rooms are well equipped with European and American fixtures, a fully outfitted modern kitchen, a 42 inch plasma TV including DVD player, free internet access, a huge balcony and amenities that are replaced every day as part of the service. There is no sea view unfortunately, but there is a beautiful roof top swimming pool to sit around and enjoy the sun, and it is only 5-10 minutes walk to the beach and all that that has to offer.

The apartments are tastefully decorated with canvas paintings hanging on the walls and ‘objects d’art’ stylishly laid out. The idea is to make you feel like these rooms are your home, whether your stay is long or short. If you take a liking to any of the paintings, and would like to buy one (or more) to take home with you, they are for sale. Most are by a popular local artist, Khun Suthirak Chantragun, and contact details are available. If this work is not to your taste, fear not, there are many other art shops and galleries in the local area, one of which will probably catch your eye.

Whether you stay is for the entire length of your visit to Patong or just a short getaway (maybe with that special someone?)
BYD Lofts can afford you all that you need to make your visit comfortable and relaxing. There is always plenty to do in Patong, but to get away from the hustle and bustle this place provides the serenity and seclusion that one often needs. Massage parlours to help you to unwind abound but for complete relaxation maybe you would prefer to be pampered in your room by one of the many visiting masseurs or masseuses.

When it is time to refuel, there is a lounge bar and restaurant, ‘Jean Pierre’, at ground level which serves European food. Why come to Thailand if you do not like Thai food? Well, when you want it, there are, of course, literally hundreds of Thai eateries to choose from, not to mention the many that serve other international dishes. But most people want or need a break from ingesting ‘local’ and Jean Pierre has an excellent reputation.

At the end of the day enjoy your dinner and get ready for phase two of the ‘Patong Experience’ – the night-time assault upon your senses. A short walk from BYD takes you to Bangla Road which, after 6pm becomes a pedestrian street. As the sun sets, the street wakes up, but slowly, as it only really gets going after 10pm. Hammer nails into blocks of wood, play ‘Four Wins”, pull blocks out of makeshift mini skyscrapers and put your intellect to the test in many other demanding ways. If Bangla becomes passé, there is always the beachfront or the Royal Paradise complex as an alternative, not to mention the discothèques and bars scattered all over Patong. However you choose to kill off a few brain cells, don’t forget your way back to your home away from home at BYD Lofts.

“It's more than abode, bed, and breakfast.”

“Specious, brilliant and secluded.”
