Tha Reu Shrine contained Pra Po Seng Tai Te (Ngor Jinyin) as a president Buddha image. This Buddha image was renowned in a traditional doctor field and curing people. From his ability and reputation in traditional doctor, someone gathered Pra Po Seng Tai Te’s pharmacopoeia and published to be an encyclopedia “Chinese Herbs”. The valuable book had been translated to 52 languages and distributed to libraries all over the world. Foreigners called Pra Po Seng Tai Te as “LIFE SAVING EMPEROR GOD”
Later, people invited a soul of Pra Po Seng Tai Te to stay in Ma song’s body for curing people. Sometimes people called Pra Po Seng Tai Te as Pra Mor (God of Doctor). When they held a ceremony, they often took place at mayor’s house because there’s no any shrine at Ta Rue.
This God of Doctor always cured both poor and rich people. He didn’t ask for money anyway. One day, a rich man gained curing from this god; he donated a lot of his money to Pra Mor or God of Doctor. Some donated lands. A committee and villagers considered building a shrine. If a land wasn’t enough, they could buy more lands for the shrine.
Finally, Ta Rue Shrine was erected by villagers and committee’s faith. The shrine was built on the donated land and they bought more lands also. The shrine has been under the proprietary right of Ministry of Interior until now.
In 2000, the committee approved to develop a shrine building at that time. But the Department of State Highways expanded a road. This caused the road narrower. So the shrine purchased some land behind and alongside of the shrine for a new shrine. Its architecture blends with Chinese sculpture in order to be appropriate with ceremonies. The splendid shrine is a sacred place for Ta Rue community, Phuket.Ceremony / traditions
