People often called “Por Tor Kong Shrine”, some called “Wai Tao Shrine” (respect the turtle). The shrine was next to Bang Niew Municipality School. The shrine was built and designed in Ancient Hokkien style.  

There was no obvious evidence of the person who built the shrine. But from the alphabets on an old wood were the ancient things of this Seng Tek Beiw Shrine. The Chinese alphabets were inscribed that the shrine was built in an era of 16th accession to the throne of Kwang Soo Emperor of Ching Dynasty in 1890.

And the one important evidence was a joss stick pot in front of the shrine. It also had Chinese alphabets “this shrine was built on the great day of the sixth month by Chinese calendar in 1880, in the time of 16th accession to the throne for Kwang Soo Emperor of Ching Dynasty. So we can presume that in 1880 the shrine was raised up or might be built before 1880. Old people here at present told that “Seng Tek Beiw Shrine was Chinese community. After that they gathered to be Pun Tao Kong Shrine (guardian spirit). Later, people invited Kuan Im to install in the shrine and held “Por Tor ceremony”. Then, they invited Tai Sue Iea Kong God or Por Tor Kong God to place in the shrine also. Por Tor Kong God will forbid eating of spirits in Por Tor ceremony. As well as the shrine also holds Por Tor ceremony every year.

Ceremony / traditions

Por Tor Ceremony in Phuket is to make merit for ancestors and spirits. This practice is as their belief. Chinese tradition becomes a culture which the Chinese have descended from their ancestors. The ceremony will start since 15th nightfall 7th month as in the Chinese calendar.
