Conference of Research and Coral Reef Conservation
in Year of International Coral Reef 2008

As ICRI appointed during of “2008” to “Year of International Coral Reef” for a stimulating people consider in the coral reef and risk occurring. Many countries all over the world hold an interested activity for coral reef conservation through the year.

In Thailand, Department of Marine and Coastal Resources by Phuket Marine Biological Center authorized in coral reef research and conservation as well as they arrange activities to celebrate for Year of International Coral Reef. Activities consist of:

International Coral Reef Initiative on May 7th, 2008, at 09.00-17.00 which presented academic researches in field of the coral reef ecosystem follow as

• Coral reef ecosystem surveying technique
• Ecology and diversity of coral reef resources
• Oceanography and geography changing effects on the coral reef
• Coral reef management and people taking part
• Coral reef recovery

Seminar of Coral Reef Management on May 8th, 2008, at 09.00-16.30 and May 9th, 2008 will debate on below issues.

• Strategic in coral reef management in Thailand
• Status of coral reef crisis
• Coral reef recovery direction
• Associated individual part in coral reef management
• Direction of the ecosystem research in Thailand of the next decade

Exhibition of Coral reef ecosystem on May 7th-9th, 2008 contains information of coral reef ecosystem included species, status, recovery and management.

Drawing Exhibition “Life of Mangrove and Coral Reef” and rewards to the winner on May 9th, 2008 from 13.00-15.00 that the activity is Phuket Marine Biological Center cooperates with Internal Ocean Institute IOI) in organizing.

All the activities compose of 100 people from researchers, scientists, teachers, students and general people who interested in coral reef conservation. A conference will be held at Phuket Aquarium during on May 7th-9th, 2008.
