Great Loy Krathong 2007 Festival

Phuket Municipality holds “Great Loy Krathong 2007 Festival”, Celebrate on the Auspicious Occasion of His Majesty the King’s 80th Birthday Anniversary.Phuket Municipality is going to hold “Loy Krathong 2007 Festival” to preserve Thai traditional and to celebrate on the Auspicious Occasion of His Majesty the King’s 80th Birthday Anniversary. So this the great festival will arrange in 22-24 November 2007 at the Saphan Hin’s stage.

Miss Somjai Suwansuppana, Mayor of Phuket Municipality revealed to the Loy Krathong 2007 Festival that is an important ancient festival which descended from Sukhothai era (an old Thailand’s capital in the past). Until now, Phuket Municipality concentrates in an old traditional as Loy Krathong Festival and annually holds Loy Krathong Festival in every year. In year of 2007 is an auspicious occasion of His Majesty the King’s 80th Birthday Anniversary as well. For Loy Krathong Festival in 2007 will celebrate on this 24 November 2007.

Loy Krathong Festival 2007 has to greater than the last year. Activities is divided into 4 parts are 1.At the pond in front of the Community College 2. At the stage 3. At the stadium opposite the Sport Building and 4. At the cape of Saphan Hin. The activities will begin at:

- In the night of 22 Nov 07 will be “Luktung Singing Contest” and a performance from students.

- In the morning on 23 Nov 07, challenge with “Drawing Contest” and in the night, excited “Junior Noppamas Contest” and student performance

- In the morning on 24 Nov 07 with “Krathong Contest” and “Parade Decoration Contest” In the night from 18.30 p.m.-20.00 p.m.,

Parade from Phuket Municipality moves to the stage at Saphan Hin. Consists of Thai art and beauty of Thai traditional 9 parades:

1. Parade of Nation

2. Parade of the King

3. Parade of the Religious

4. Parade of Brahman

5. Ganges River Respecting Parade

6. Noppamas Parade

7. Cultural Parade

8. Krathong Parade

9. Parade of Present Time

At 20.00 p.m. will be time to float the Krathong and see the performance to pay respect to the Great King from Kor Chan fishermen by decorate the light and float a boat from Bang Yai canal to the sea, then light 9 sets of firecracker follow as:
