| Phuket Municipality holds up the Buddhist Lent Day 2006 in 2nd and 6th -10th July 2006 at Queen Sirikit Public Park, Thaland Road for succeed Thai tradition.
Phuket Municipality Mayor, Miss Somjai Suwansupana revealed to the Buddhist Lent Day is a very important Thai tradition that happened since Sukhothai was a capital period and performed for a long time until now. This year the Buddhist Lent Day is on 11th Tuesday July 2006 so Phuket Municipality will kick off to all of people and children for continue this Thai enchanting tradition.
And on 2nd July 2006, 06.00 Pm. at Queen Sirikit Public Park, we will mold the Phansa candle (Big candle) by Phuket governor then on 6-8 July 2006 will be a Sorapanya chanting (Buddhist chanting) competition by divided into 3 levels; primary school, junior secondary school, high school and vocational education all are group of 5 people. The winner will gain 2,000 baht, 1,500 baht and 1,000 baht with cups and certificates. Moreover, there are altar adornment with 2types are altar 7 pattern and altar 9 pattern, flower arrangement in vase by tall shape, short and freedom shape. Besides, there are decorated trays with pedestal competition, drawing competition and performance from municipal schools every night.
05.00 Pm., 9th July 2006 will have a procession of Phansa candles that move from Phuket Municipality school turns left to Bangkok Road, pass Suriyadej circle turn right to Deebuk Road, turn right to Queen Sirikit Public Park on Thalang Road and we will celebrate by Phuket governor. For Phansa candle cars decoration that join in this occasion will receive support money from Phuket Municipality 4,000 baht for each and will gathered at Phuket Municipal school at 05.00 Pm.
