| The local authorities on the island resort of Phuket have announced plans to twin with the Chinese province of Hainan.
A provincial delegation is scheduled to visit Hainan island in the next few days to sign an agreement to twin the two provincial cities.
During their six-day visit, Phuket provincial officials hope to strengthen political ties between the two towns and in particularly to develop and promote tourism with the start of air travel between the two cities.
The initiative was first proposed after the Hainan governor visited Phuket, two years ago, Phuket's Governor Udomsak Asavarangkul told a local TNA.
The Phuket delegation's visit in Hainan starts on Thursday.
