| A group of Japanese politicians have promised to support efforts to revive tourism in Thailand's tsunami-hit towns.
The politicians discussed possible Japanese aid to help revive tourism in the tsunami-hit areas with local officials on Monday, including possible financial support for Puket's advance-warning system, according to Thai officials.
The delegation leader, an adviser to the Japanese Prime Minister Junichiro Koisumi, Shin Sakurai reportedly told Thai officials that Japan was interested in helping Phuket and Phang Nga provinces hit by the tsunami.
''Japan is keen to help the rehabilitation work in Phuket and Phang Nga. The Japanese politicians are trying to drum up funds for the work,'' said the deputy director of the Suphamitr Foundation of Thailand Jittra
Dharmborisuth, who attend the meeting.
During their meeting with Phuket's Governor Udomsak Asavarangkul, the delegation head promised to consider providing financial support for the advance tsunami-warning system.
The installation of the system in 15 key spots across the Patong beach will reportedly cost the province more than 40 million baht.
''The Japanese delegation also promised to urge its nationals to visit the province to help boost the tourist industry, badly hit by the disaster,'' said Mrs. Jittra.
