| Representatives from 450 hotels, tourist operators and government officials in Thailand's six southern coastal provinces hit by December's tsunami have been discussing how to deal with possible future disasters.
The seminar held at a hotel on the island resort of Phuket was organised to help government agencies understand their role and duties during natural disasters.
People should know which agency they should contact in the event of a future natural disaster, the minister of Natural Resources and Environment, Yongyut Tiyapairat, told the participants on Saturday.
The government has published a handbook on earthquakes, evacuation procedures and safe areas which will be distributed to the public, the minister said.
The handbook is also published in English and will be given to foreign tourists.
The seminar aim to provide private tourist operators, the media, the public and government officials an opportunity to discuss ideas on disaster preventive measures and help restore confidence amongst tourists.
