| Gauhati Town Club (GTC) have emerged runners-up in the recently-concluded 2nd Lighthouse Phuket International six-a-side cricket tournament at Karon stadium in Phuket, Thailand.
The Guwahati outfit went down to Sunshine Cricket Club, Ahmedabad, by six wickets in the final of the five-over-a-side tournament.
The GTC batted first and scored 50 for one in the stipulated five overs with Devajit Saikia and Rajdeep Ojha remaining unbeaten on 18 and 15 respectively. In reply, Sunshine reached 51 in four overs with R. Shah’s unbeaten 25 as the top score.
The GTC entered the final defeating Lamma Cricket Club of Hong Kong by two runs. Batting first, the GTC posted 70 for four in five overs and Lamma were restricted to 68 for one in five overs.
Mukut Kalita (32) and Devajit Saikia (16) were the main scorers for the GTC while Brad Tarr scored 30 for Lamma.
En route to the final, the GTC defeated Wild Men from Borneo in the first match and Kudu Cavalry of Kuala Lumpur in the second. They lost to Perth Postal of Australia in the third outing and also to Corner Tigers of Pakistan in the fourth tie. Several test players like Trevor Chappel of Australia and Kenneth Jackson of South Africa, featured in the tournament.
A 20-overs-a-side tsunami fund-raising match was also organised between the Rest of the World XI and Phuket Cricket Council where the former, led by Trevor Chappel, won by 40 runs. Rajdeep Ojha was part of the Rest of the World team
